Mobile extends lucrative BT Mobile device fulfilment deal

Mobile has renewed its lucrative fulfilment and logistics agreement with BT Mobile for another three years, Mobile Newsunderstands.

The decision concludes a long-running tender process which began earlier this year. The results of the tender were originally expected to be announced back in July.

The agreement will see 20:20 Mobile continue to manage all logistical fulfilment on handsets for BT Mobile customers in the UK until at least 2015.

20:20 Mobile has now held the contract for around a decade.

BT Mobile, which operates as an MVNO through Vodafone, is viewed as one of the most sought-after handset supply deals in the UK market, alongside Tesco and Phones 4U. The contract is said to be worth an estimated 200,000 handsets per year.

Distributors BrightPoint, Data Select, Brightstar (now Tech Data Mobile) and Micro-P are all understood to have put in a tender for the contract.

BT Mobile typically runs a tender or auction process for handset supply across all distributors every three to six months to obtain the best price.

20:20 is expected to provide stock from Samsung, Sony and RIM.

Micro-P is understood to have secured a deal for fulfilment of Nokia devices, while  BrightPoint is expected to fulfil orders for HTC handsets.

All handset stock for BT Mobile will be held at 20:20 Mobile’s head office warehouse in Crewe.

20:20, BrightPoint and Micro-P declined to comment as Mobile News went to press.

BT said it doesn’t comment on “rumour and speculation”.
