Sprint Prepaid is $45 prepaid service for Sprint, but not the prepaid from Sprint you’ve seen before

Confusing title, I know, but it’s a distinction that we have to make. Sprint, which has previously managed prepaid service under the Virgin and Boost brands, has today launched Sprint Prepaid service. The new option is directly under Sprint’s brand and offers customers an option to get cellular service without a contract or credit check.

Sprint Prepaid plans begin with the “Smart” plan. Smart service costs $45 per month and includes unlimited talk and text without any cellular data service. The Smart Plus plan offers unlimited talk, text, and data for $60 per month. Data connects to Sprint’s 3G, 4G LTE, and LTE Spark networks.

Device options are limited and that affects network performance as a result. Sprint says it will add more devices to Sprint Prepaid soon, but at launch, only the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, Samsung Galaxy S3, and Moto G are eligible for service.

Sprint is also offering options for managing money and getting insurance. The Sprint Money Express lets customers deposit money, pay bills, and spend money with a linked Visa debit card. It’s the same type of service T-Mobile introduced in January.
