Pocket Casts 4.5 on the left, older version on the right
Pocket Casts, one of the best podcast apps available on Android, has updated to include a refined interface and the ability to stream audio or video podcasts on a TV using Chromecast. In August 2013, the Shifty Jelly developers revealed to MobileBurn that they planned to introduce support for Chromecast; however, the long wait time for official SDK support from Google caused the app to not add the new streaming option until today.
Arriving alongside the new casting option is a slightly tweaked interface. There’s a new Up Next Playlist that users can access by swiping left from The Now Playing screen to see the podcast queue. The Now Playing screen looks a little slimmer, the podcast episode listing page now includes thumbnails and better separation between files, there’s a more defined playing bar at the bottom, and colors are intelligently adjusted based on the artwork of a podcast. The UI has been changed to fit better into modern Android conventions, and there are many more “little details” to improve performance and use.
