Google has its own camera with new UI in Google Play

Google today released an all new camera application that’s designed to greatly improve the experience of taking photos with a stock Android device. And even people with non-Nexus smartphones like an HTC One M8 or Samsung Galaxy S5 can use the app because it’s available in Google Play.

The new Google Camera is available now for Android 4.4 or later devices. It features an all new interface that dumps the dreadful UI that required users hold down on the screen to access the control panel. It has been replaced with a simpler setup that turn the entire bottom third of the screen into a shutter button. You can still tap to focus, and if you need to access more controls, a three-dot overflow button can bring up the controls for flash, HDR, switching between front or rear cameras, and the framing grid.

Swiping from the edge of the screen brings up shooting modes for Photo Sphere, Panorama, Lens Blur, and Video. The Lens blur creates a blurred background effect that puts he focus on a close person or stationary object. It’s one of the many depth of field tricks that smartphone vendors use to bring over from SLR cameras.

Google Camera takes photos with a 100% viewfinder to get highest resolution possible from the device. Users can still change the settings to the resolution on photos or videos.
